Mathura will host the Janmashtami celebrations for eight days this year from August 17-25, till a day post Janmashtami. This move is said to be an attempt to give a boost to the place in terms of specifying its cultural status.
The latest reports say that, a mega cultural event will be organised in Mathura on the occasion of Janmashtami. State Minister for Culture Chaudhury Laxmi Narain said that international artists from countries, such as Indonesia and Malaysia, along with artists from Manipur, Assam, and Gujarat will take part in the celebrations.
Around 1000 folk artists from Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh will be performing at various events. One of the main highlights of the celebration is going to be 'Krishna Leela', which will be performed by Delhi-based artists.
Films and laser shows based on the life of Lord Krishna will be also showcased during this eight-day-long celebrations. Rangoli competitions will be held, and temples in Mathura and Vrindavan will be brightened with LED lights.
