As we all know that Easter is the renowned festival celebrated by Christians all over the world. Today being the 'Easter Sunday', we EeYuva are here with a small description of Easter and its celebrations.

Palm Sunday, is the Sunday before Easter. This year Easter falls on the 21st of April, so Palm Sunday was on the 14th of April. Palm Sunday is the great day which is celebrated with complete happiness by Christians all over the world as Jesus entered Jerusalem city as a King and Savior.

This day is given the name as 'Palm Sunday' especially because the people of Jerusalem welcomed Jesus by placing Palm branches on the road while Jesus was riding a horse and entering Jerusalem with pride and honour.

The week followed by the Palm Sunday is celebrated as 'Holy Week', which includes 'Easter Triduum'. Many of the Christian countries give national holidays on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and on Easter Monday.

Easter Triduum includes three special days of this holy week which are as follows: Maundy Thursday meaning washing the feet of Jesus and the last supper of Jesus along with his Apostles. Good Friday is the day when Jesus was nailed to a cross and brought to death by the Romans and Easter Sunday is believed to be the most important day where God raised Jesus from the dead after his crucifixion.

So, on the occasion of Easter Sunday, we are detailing the tourist attractions of Jerusalem, here we go…

Jerusalem is the land of pilgrimage sites and attracting various religious believers from different parts of the world as it has temples, churches and mosques related to Jewish, Christians and Muslim people. It is also making people awestruck with its unique architecture.

Church Of The Holy Sepulchre

This is said to be the place with two important reasons, one is: this is the place where the Jesus of Nazareth was crucified at a place known as 'Calvary' and the other is: Jesus' empty tomb where he was said to be buried and resurrected. Many Christians reach this place on Easter to know the history and also believed to be the holy place.

Via Dolorosa

This is the way where Jesus walked to his crucifixion. This is often referred to as the 'Painful way' or 'Way Of Suffering'. This total way covers from Antonia Fortress to The Church Of The Holy Sepulchre covering a distance of 600 meters. It is today marked as the nine 'Stations Of the Cross' which is covered by the images of Jesus on the day of crucifixion.

Christian Quarter

This is one of the four quarters of the Old City of Jerusalem. The three being Muslim Quarter, Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter. Christian Quarter is the most sacred holy place in Jerusalem with almost around 40 Christian holy places in it. Most of them who visit this holy place is the Palestinian Christians.

Mount Of Olives

Mount Of Olives relates to the story of Jesus. It is the official place of burials in Jerusalem following from over 3,000 years and now it consists of around 1,50,000 cemeteries in this place. It is also believed that this place is where Jesus was ascended to heaven after his crucifixion. There are many churches at this Mount and the best part of this Mount is the panoramic views of Jerusalem city.

There are many other places related to Christian beliefs in Jerusalem. But now, we are ending this with some of the main sites purely related to Jesus.

We will come up with another article which clearly explains the main site-seeing attractions of Jerusalem. Till then stay tuned to EeYuva and book your tickets to Jerusalem for Easter celebrations.
