This place (Bodh Gaya) has got very important significance as Buddha got his foremost enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. Actually, when we go deep into the history, the officials say, Buddha when he was in a fight with evil to free the mankind or humanity from the cycle of suffering, he struggled a lot and underwent penance, met many teachers, researched a lot for six years without taking food and drink which finally lead him to become a mere skeleton.
Realising the fact that it would lead him to death he came to the bank of Niranjana where he was offered food. After which, he again started meditating beneath the Bodhi Tree and after facing all the efforts, at last on full moon day of Vaishaka at the age of 35 years he attained the supreme enlightenment and hence known as Buddha.

All About The Temple…
Bodh Gaya aka Mahabodhi Temple is recognised as the UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its historical replicas and rich architecture.
All the disciples of Buddha stared visiting this temple on Buddha Purnima where Buddha have obtained education regarding truth under Bodhi Tree. After Buddha attaining enlightenment, the emperor Ashoka visited this place and constructed temple dedicated to Buddhism. Hence it has became the popular tourist site for Buddhists and Hindus. The temple construction looks like a pagoda style of architecture. This temple is directly constructed to the east of this Bodhi Tree.
Architecture Involved In This Epic Construction…
Though there were many restorations made for this construction, as said above to the east of this Bodhi Tree this temple is constructed. The Vihara of the temple is 160 to 170 feet high with blue bricks covered with burnt stone lime.
All the stones of the temple which are involved in construction hold golden figures. The pillars, beams, projecting caves, doors and windows are decorated with gold and silver ornamental work with pearls and gems inserted in between them. At the end, you will get awe-struck looking at the mind-blowing architecture of this temple.
