The most acclaimed cricketing event in both the Telugu states, ECC CUP, has started in Kurnool on 19th December, 2016 with ACP Ravi Krishna attending as the chief guest. This state level open cricket tournament started with just 300 teams in 2006 and its magnitude has reached 1683 teams in 2015.

According to Guinness Book of World Record, the ECC Cup is the world's largest cricket tourney. In Kurnool district alone, a total of 82 teams are participating in the mega event with 40 teams in the junior level and 42 teams at the senior level.

The chief guest said, “youth can get worldwide recognition through sports and the current youngsters should take inspiration from players like MS Dhoni and PV Sindhu”.

There are 6 matches held in Kurnool district.

1st Match

The first match took place between Krishnaveni and Masterminds colleges. Masterminds won the match.

Krishnaveni College: 48/8 in 10 overs (Ganesh 25 (5*4); Sashikumar 4 wickets).

Master Minds College: 49/0 in 4.2 overs.

2nd Match

The second match was held between Srivenkateshwara college from Nandyal and Saint Teresa from Atmakur. Sri Venkateswara emerged victorious at the end of the match.

Saint Teresa college: 54/1 in 10 overs.

Sri Venkateswara college: 55/0 in 4.5 overs (Captain Vinay 36 (6*4, 1*6) in just 18 balls).

3rd Match

The Third match occurred between SVR college from Nandhyal and AP Adarsh college from Kodumur. SVR college sealed the victory.

Adarsh college: 61/5 in 10 overs (Ramu 25, Mohan Kumar 12).

SVR college: 64/1 in 6.5 overs (Naseer 32 (4*4, 1*6) in 20 balls and Chandrasekhar 19).

4th Match

The fourth match was held between Narayana junior college from Kurnool and Done government junior college. Narayana college won the match.

Done college: 48/7 in 10 overs (Shiva 17 runs; Nitesh and Saikeerthan scalped 2 wickets each).

Narayana college: 50/2 in 7 overs (Lahid 24 runs).

5th Match

The fifth match took place between Government junior college from Gudur and AP model college from

Udumulapadu. AP model college has defeated the Government college.

AP model college: 87/2 in 10 overs (Ganesh 34 runs and Naveen 17 runs).

Government college: 85/3 in 10 overs (Mahesh 32 runs).

6th Match

The sixth match occurred between ESI Government polytechnic college from Nandyal and PSV, KVPS junior college from Nandyal. ESI college won the match.

PSV college: 58/5 in 10 overs (Abdul 14 runs and Nagendra 13 runs).

ESI college: 59/0 in 6 overs (Basha 27 runs and Shafi Ulla 10 runs).

Jio, the largest 4G network in India, is the official sponsor of the ECC CUP. Apart from Jio, there are also other associate partners like Honda, Hyundai, etc. The Viswabharathi hospital has served the ambulance services.
