The batsman who had sprinted outside the crease and smashed the ball out of the ground will surely never fade away from the memories of cricket freaks. 15 years ago, former India's dynamic skipper took off his jersey and waved it in the Lord's balcony to express his aggression to retaliate against Andrew Flintoff's act. He's Sourav Ganguly, fondly called as 'Dada'.

On this day, 47 years ago, i.e., on July 8, Sourav Chandidas Ganguly was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata). Let's wish him a 'Wonderful Happy Birthday'. On his birthday, EeYuva wants to share some of the very interesting facts of Dada on & off the 22-yard circle.

The stylish Kolkata batsman played his first white ball match on January 11, 1992, against West Indies. The God of off-side played 311 ODI matches and scored 11363 runs, including 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries.

Four years later, Sourav played his first Test against England at the Lord's. On the same day, his team-mate and 'Great Wall of India' - Rahul Dravid also made his Test debut. Ganguly played 113 Test matches and scored 7212 runs. His best score of 239 came against Pakistan.

The former stylish left-hand batsman installed a personal bowling machine at his residence for practising cricketing shots, mainly off-side, after he was dropped from India's ODI team in 1992. Later, he scored a truckload of runs in the first class cricket and was back in the team in 1996.

In early 2001 during India's tour of Australia, Ganguly upset former Aussie skipper Steve Waugh by arriving late for the toss for almost every game. Never before we have had an Indian captain coming late for the toss. Of course, Dada intentionally did this in reply to the Aussies' rude behaviour on the field.

In the history of world cricket, the rivalry between Sourav Ganguly and Andrew Flintoff is one of the epic encounters that made the whole nation remember the incident. You all know, what happened then!

The former Indian captain also created history in the ODI cricket by reaching the milestone of 10,000 run mark, 100 wickets and 100 catches. There were a few world class players in the elite list to achieve the same feat - Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Jacques Kallis and Tillakaratne Dilshan.

The charismatic leader always believed in young talent and gave opportunities to superstars like Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, etc. These players made their mark under Sourav's captaincy and have dominated the world.

The former cricketer is the most aggressive player on the field and his intensity, fighting spirit and never say die attitude made him a successful and a great player in the Indian cricket. Recently, Sourav Ganguly has launched a book titled ' A Century Is Not Enough'.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is a spiritual person and he strongly believes in God. Also, every Tuesday Sourav goes on a fast. There are some valuable lessons about the Prince of Kolkata that we can learn things from his life as a successful person on & off the field. And undoubtedly, he is a world class leader.

Once again, we wish you an 'Amazing Happy Birthday' Dada!
