Tata Motors, one of India's leading automobile makers has geared up to launch its flagship SUV Tata Harrier in India. Since its unveiling as a concept model at Auto Expo 2018, the car has created a lot of interest among the audience. The company also commenced the customer previews from the 18th of December in multiple cities of India. New Design Language
Tata Motors borrowed Harrier design from its British luxury car company Jaguar Land Rover and is the first car to get Impact 2.0 design language in the company's Indian line-up. The front portion of the car draws the attention through its well-positioned LED DRLs, twin beam projected headlamps and iconic front grille. The car gets 205mm ground clearance, electrically adjustable ORVMs, 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels for XT, XZ variants and 16-inch steel rim wheels fro XE, XM variants.
With a seating capacity of five, Harrier is spacious and offers enough boot, comfortable seating for both front and rear seat passengers. Its black and oakwood interiors give a lavish look to the dashboard and other interiors. For passenger comfort, the car comes with front and rear USB charging ports, centre console cooling storage, rear seat armrest with cup holders and door mounted storage platforms. Adjustable steering wheel with audio, phone and cruise controls are another key features of the Harrier interiors.
The all-new Harrier gets advanced features like 8.8-inch infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Digital and Analogue combined 7-inch instrumental panel, 9-JBL speakers for XZ variant. It also features Aeroplane inspired parking brake, leather upholstery seats and rear AC vents on door pillars.
As of now, Tata Motors is offering Harrier in diesel engine only. It is powered by a 2.0-litre engine that churns out 140PS power and 350Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and the company is planning to introduce Auto transmission later. The car features City Eco and Sport Drive modes along with terrain response modes - Normal, Wet and Rough.
The Harrier gets Dual Airbags, ABS with EBD as standard safety features in all variants. Additionally, the top end XZ variant gets - 6-airbags, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Rear parking sensors, Rear view camera, Hill hold assist, Hill descent control, Roll over mitigation and Corner stability control.
In the current scenario, SUVs have high demand among the Indian buyers which have become cash cows for car makers. Even the car makers are also investing a lot in SUV making. The Tata Harrier is another luxury offering from Tata's after the tremendous success of its compact SUV Nexon.
Though it was built on the next-gen design plat from, Harrier faces tough competition from Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV 500, Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Nissan Kicks.
