After its customer experience tour across the country, MG (Morris Garages) Motors India has christened its upcoming SUV as Hector. MG Motor India is a British carmaker owned by China's automobile firm SAIC Motor Corporation. Before the launch, the company initiated a customer experience tour by showcasing the SUV across various platforms throughout the country.
According to the MG Motors India, The name 'Hector' draws inspiration from the noble qualities of the Trojan warrior hero - Prince Hector of Troy. It pays homage to great British engineering tradition, as a nod to the Royal Hector biplane, used by the Royal Air Force in the 1930s. ‘Hector’ stands for everything Strong, Bold, Trustworthy and Dependable.
Now the company has officially confirmed that it will launch new Hector SUV in 2019 second quarter. According to the sources, the car inspired by the MG RX5 global model. Though the company hasn't yet unveiled the features and specifications it is expected that Hector will be offered in both 1.6-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engine variants. It is also expected to be priced in between Rs 15-Rs 20 lakhs.
The MG Hector will compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass. MG is a new brand and it showcased Hector as a concept model at Auto Expo 2018. During the name unveil event, MG Motors has clearly stated that soon the company will launch two more SUVs following the Hector that debuts in mid-2019.
