Indian renowned passenger car maker Hyundai has further heated-up the Indian SUV car market with the launch of its passenger car segment with the launch of Kona Electric. It is the first fully electric SUV in the Hyundai India's line-up. The Kona Electric has priced at Rs 25.30 lakh and gets similar interiors, space and features like Creta.
Kona Electric Drive System
It is also available in two motor options - 100 kW and 150 kW. The 100 kW motor generates 136PS power and 395 Nm of torque with a travel range of 345 km. The 150 kW motor produces 200PS power and the same 395 Nm of torque with an estimated travel range of 557 km. Kona Electric also has four different driving modes – Eco, Eco+, Comfort and Sport. The car can accelerate 0-100 kmph in just 9.7-seconds.
Kona Electric Battery
Hyundai is offering Kona Electric wif. As of now, the car comes with 39.2 kWh Lithium-ion Polymer battery. This can be charged in 0-100 per cent in just 6hours 10minutes with AC Wall Box charger (7.2 kW) and 0-80 per cent in just 57 minutes with DC charging.
According to the company, customers will be provided with two chargers including a portable charger and an AC wall box charger. The 3 Pin 15 Amp portable charger can be plugged into any normal socket and it can charge the battery less than three hours with that car can travel 50 km range. While the AC Wall Box charger (7.2 kW) can top-up charge the vehicle within 1 hour for the same 50 km travel.
Kona Electric Features
Exteriors of the car include - Hyundai's cascading design grille, split type LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable heated ORVMs and front charging with LED lighting to show the charging status.
Interiors of the car equipped with 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with the connectivity of a smartphone, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also has exciting features like wireless charging, ventilated & heated seats and head-up display, electric sunroof, by-function LED lamps, digital instrument console and ten-way adjustable driver seat.
Kona Electric Safety
For passenger safety, the Kona Electric comes with six airbags, electric parking brake, ABS, EBD, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), HAC (Hill-start Assist Control), ISOFIX, virtual engine sound system for pedestrian safety.
In addition, Hyundai is working with IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited) to develop charging infrastructure at "select fuel stations in select cities" to provide fast charging facilities. The company is also going to invest in the equipment and installation of these Fast Chargers (CCS Type - Single Port) that can charge 80 per cent of the battery capacity in less than an hour.
Moreover, all Hyundai Electric Selling dealerships are equipped with a 7.2 kW AC charger to support customers for KONA Electric charging. Additionally, in select cities, a special Kona Electric fleet fitted with power converter will provide emergency charging support to the customers.
