After Hyundai Kona Electric debuted in the country, the Indian passenger car market is all set to witness a spree of electric vehicles launch. On the other side, the Government is also making its policies more favourable to the manufacturers to facilitate faster adoption of green mobility in the country. Companies like Maruti Suzuki, Audi, Mahindra, Nissan and MG have also announced that they are going to launch electric cars very soon into the market.
Interestingly, most of these cars are all set to launch in this year itself. Here EeYuva made a list of electric cars that are going to be launched in India particularly.
The new e-tron electric SUV gets a noise and CO2 free 125 kW electric motor in the front axle while a 140 kW unit propels the rear. Both motors powered by a 95 kWh battery pack together generates 400 PS power and 660 Nm of torque. The car accelerates 0-100 kmph in just six seconds and it can travel up to the 400 km range with a single charge, sped limit of 200 mph. Price of the e-Tron hasn't been announced yet but it is expected to be Rs 1.2 crore. It is expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2019.
The all-electric eZs is powered by 110 kW motor that delivers 150 PS power and 350 Nm of torque. With a charging time of 30 minutes, the car travel range is 428 km and it accelerates 0-50 km in just 3.1 seconds. As of now, MG hasn't revealed the specifications and features of the eZs but it comes equipped with MG's iSmart NextGen technology. It will be launched in India by the end of this year and is expected to be priced between Rs 25-30 lakhs.
Expected to be launched at the end of 2019, the new Nissan Leaf is powered by the 40 kWh Li-ion battery that delivers 110 kW power and 320 Nm of torque. It a range of 400km and is equipped with ProPILOT autonomous drive technology and the revolutionary e-Pedal technology. The car also gets 7-inch, full-colour (TFT) display with key features such as the Safety Shield technology power gauge and audio, navigation system information and Apple CarPlay. The price of Nissan Leaf is expected to fall somewhere in between Rs 35-40 lakhs.
Mahindra and Mahindra is always a front runner in the country's EV makers list. Its eKUV100 is an amalgamation of Mahindra's SUV and electric car. Its eco-friendly motor travels a range of 140 km. The eKUV100 features smartphone connectivity, remote diagnostics, cabin pre-cooling, location tracking. It even monitors your driving pattern and battery status. The eKUV100 is going to launch in India later this year and the price of ekUV100 is expected to be Rs 10 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV
Maruti is currently testing the WagonR EV in India and it is expected to be launched end of 2019. The company hasn't yet unveiled the specifications of the car but rumours mill around that the vehicle will have a range of 130 km. It also supports standard AC charging as well as DC fast charging. It is likely to be priced at Rs 7 lakh.
Tata Altroz EV
Tata Altroz EV is a premium urban car designed and developed under IMPACT 2.0 design language. It is a combination of revolutionary design, advanced technology and class-leading connectivity. The prototype of Altroz EV first unveiled at GIMS 2019 and is expected to make its debut in the Indian market in mid-2019.
Moreover, the lack of infrastructure for EV manufacturing and availability of charging stations is dragging back the launch of more number of electric cars in India.
