China has again retained the top spot for eighth time in the latest semi-annual edition released by the Top500 list of the supercomputers. The world's fastest supercomputer, Sunway
TaihuLight made China to achieve this crown.
China's massive supercomputer TaihuLight can perform 93 million billion calculations per a second and the speciality of it is, the processors used in this supercomputer are designed and made in China only.
TaihuLight made its appearance in June, replacing the former champion, Tianhe-2, another Chinese system built based on Intel chips.
The previous list was released in June 2016 and China overtook the US in the number of total supercomputers.
This time the total number of supercomputers installed in China has increased to 171 from 168 on the last list.
The Top500 list is considered one of the most authoritative rankings of the world's supercomputers.
