Most of us crave for hot and spicy foods in this chilled winter but apart from these, there are a few people who always crave for desserts. Are you one among them? Then here is a delicious winter dessert 'Moong Dal Halwa' for you. One can prepare this yummy sweet with the basic ingredients and that too in very less time. Moong dal/Split green gram - 1 cup (soak for 3-4 hrs)
Ghee - 1 cup
Sooji/ Semolina - 1 tbsp
Gram flour - 1 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Sugar - 1 cup
Saffron - 1 tbsp (soaked in warm water)
Cardamom powder - ½ tsp
Chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, cashews) - a handful each
Preparation Of Moong Dal Halwa
First blend the soaked moong dal into a smooth paste and set it aside.
Heat the ghee in a pan and add the semolina, gram flour and mix them well without burning.
When the colour changes slightly, add the moong dal paste to it and mix it well with a spatula on a low flame.
Meanwhile, prepare the sugar syrup. For this, boil the water with sugar and mix it until the sugar dissolves.
Then add the saffron, cardamom powder to the syrup and mix it until the syrup changes into light brown colour and take it off the flame.
Keep on stirring the moong dal paste until you get a lighter brown shade. Make sure that it should not burn.
Now it's time to add the sugar syrup to it. Mix it well until the moong dal halwa absorbs the sugar syrup completely.
When it starts reducing, add the chopped nuts and give a nice stir. Cook it for a few more minutes and off the flame.
