Home-Made 'Schezwan Sauce' Recipe

Ingredients You Need

  • Red chillies - ½ cup

  • Chilli powder - ½ tspschezwan sauce

  • Chopped green chillies - ½ tbsp

  • Tomato sauce - 1 cup

  • Chopped ginger and garlic - 1 tbsp

  • Chopped small sized onion - 1

  • Soy sauce - ½ tbsp

  • Chilli sauce - ½ tbsp

  • Crushed star anise - 1

  • A pinch of ajinamoto

  • Vinegar - ½ tbsp

  • Sugar - ½ tbsp

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil - ½ cup

  • Water as required

Method To Prepare Schezwan Sauce

  1. Boil the red chillies along with some water for a minute and take it off the flame. Blend them into a coarse paste by adding little amounts of water.

  2. Saute the ginger, garlic, green chillies, star anise and onions in heated oil until the onions become tender.

  3. Now add the red chilli paste and stir it for a while to combine with the sauteed spices, then add the remaining ingredients - chilli powder, tomato sauce, salt, vinegar, ajinamoto, chilli sauce, soy sauce, sugar and bring it to boil along with little water (if required).

  4. Let it cook on a low flame for 5 to 10 minutes. Take it off the flame and let it cool down.

Note: Store the hot sauce in an airtight container and place it in a cool place to increase the shelf life of the sauce.
