Preparing this yummy and juicy semolina cake will not only satiate your loved ones sweet tooth but also makes them to shower bundle of love towards you. So guys without any delay let's have a quick look at the recipe...

Ingredients List

  • Semolina - 2¼ cups

  • Butter - 1 cupbasbousa

  • Sugar - 1 cup

  • Buttermilk - 1½ cups

  • Vanilla essence - 2 tsp

  • Baking powder - 1 tbsp

  • Baking soda - 1¾ tsp

  • Blanched almonds for garnishing

For Sugar Syrup

  • Sugar - 1 cup

  • Water - 1 cup

  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp

Initial Steps

  1. Grease the baking tray and rest it aside. Preheat the oven at 190o C. Whisk sugar and buttermilk in a bowl until it melts and set it aside.

  2. Boil the sugar, water along with lemon juice until sugar melts. Take it off the flame and set it aside.

Method To Prepare Basbousa Cake

  1. Mix semolina, vanilla essence, baking powder and baking soda in another deep bottomed bowl. Let us melt the butter at room temperature.

  2. Now, add sugar-buttermilk mixture and butter to semolina mixture and stir them well to get a lump-free batter. Pour the batter in a greased baking tray and spread it evenly with a spatula.

  3. Bake it for about 25-30 minutes at the same temperature. Take it out from the oven and let it cool for some time. Pour the sugar syrup over the baked cake and leave it for a few more minutes to absorb the syrup.

  4. Cut it into diamond or square shape and garnish each piece with blanched almonds before serving.

Note: Before baking the cake, you can also add some orange flower water or orange essence to the cake batter to enhance the flavour.
