Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is started by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to encourage the meritorious students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The main aim of the programme is identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue career in research.

The Grant

Generous fellowship and contingency grant will be provided to the selected KVPY Fellows up to the prePhD level or five years whichever is earlier. In addition, summer camps will also be organized in prestigious research and educational institutions in the country.

Eligibility

  • Only Indian nationals, studying in India are eligible to apply for.

  • Students intending to pursue education through distance, correspondence or online mode are not eligible to apply.

Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2019-20 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard

Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII standard/ (+2) (science subjects) during the academic year 2019–20 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in basic sciences and have secured a minimum of 75% (65% for sc/st/pwd) marks in aggregate in mathematics and science subjects (physics/chemistry/ biology) in the x standard

Stream SB: Students enrolled in the first year of undergraduate programme in basic sciences and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for sc/st/pwd) marks in aggregate in mathematics and science subjects (physics/chemistry/biology)  in the 12th standard

Selection Procedure

The selection of the fellows will be carried out through the two phases:

1. Aptitude test and

2. Interview

There is no fixed syllabus for the aptitude test, as it is aimed to test the understanding and analytical ability of the student than his or her factual knowledge. However, students are tested for the syllabus as applicable.

 

Application Fees For KVPY 2019

  • For General/OBC Category: Rs. 1000

  • For SC/ST/PWD: Rs. 500

Important Dates

  • Opening of online application portal: 8th July 2019

  • Date for closing of online application:: 20th August 2019 at 5:00 PM

  • Download Admit card: Second week of October 2019

  • Exam Date: 3rd November 2019
