No one can easily forget the Tamil director Karthik Subbaraj who enthralled one and all with an edge of the seat thriller Pizza. Proved as a good storyteller, the director also filmed Jigarthanda and Iraivi which gained appreciations. Now, the 35-year old film-maker is directing a thriller called Mercury that includes no dialogues at all.
The film's trailer has landed on social platforms and it is clear that the director seriously wanted to scare the audience just with silence.
The trailer starts off with a headstone built in the memory of 84 people who died in the mercury poisoning incident happened in 1992. A group of five young individuals visits an abandoned mercury factory and gets into trouble. The frightened individuals running for their lives amidst the clutter in the trailer sans dialogues promises for a unique watch in the theatres.
Clad in a dhoti and blood smeared all over his body, Prabhu Deva's looks resemble a zombie and his wild expressions are really scary.
The visuals of the lush green hill station and forbidden laboratory are captured well by the cinematographer S Thirunavukkarasu. Santosh Narayanan's background score is good enough to scare the audience.
Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the trailer of this silent thriller engages the audience big time. After Kamal Haasan's Pushpak Vimana/Pushpaka Vimanam, this is the only flick that comes with no dialogues. Sound designer Kunal Rajan has succeeded in making the trailer more intriguing with his brilliant work.
Starring Sananth, Indhuja, Deepak Paramesh, Shashank Purushotham and Anish Padmanabhan in the vital roles, the no-language film is going to thrill the Kollywood, Tollywood, Bollywood and Mollywood audience alike on April 13.
The film is officially going to screen at The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) on April 12, just a day before its official release.
Touted to be a no-interval film, Mercury is produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam - Jayantilal Gada under Pen Studios and Stone Bench Films. The 108-minute silent film is edited by Vivek Harshan.
Well, we need to wait till Friday to know how far Karthik succeded in providing another edge of the seat thriller.
