Ravi Teja’s Raja The Great is all set for October 13 release which is garnering huge buzz. Anil Ravipudi who gave industry hits like Pataas and Supreme is directing this Ravi Teja and Mehreen Pirzada starrer. Though Ravi Teja is playing visually challenged, it has loads of entertainment and action which we crave for in his movies. The teaser and trailer speak enough.

In an attempt, just before the release of the movie, we want to sum up the actors who played visually impaired roles onscreen. Take a look.

Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam in Kaabil

Hrithik’s role as a blind dubbing artist avenging the death of his wife is highly laudable. His committed performance makes the move a good watch. Yami Gautam too has done her part well.

Raj Tarun – Andhhagadu

Raj Tarun played blind guy in the movie Andhhagadu where he gets back his sight. The movie has not done well at the ticket windows.

Mohanlal – Kanupapa

Dubbed into Telugu as Kanupapa (Originally made in Malayalam – Oppam), the edge of the seat thriller has Mohanlal in a visually challenging role. Usually, star heroes do not show interest in portraying such characters but our Lalettan not only played the character to the perfection but also made this crime-thriller a good watch with his screen presence.

Kajal Aggarwal – Do Lafzon Ki Kahani

The love story similar to that of Deepika’s Lafangey Parindey was a box office dud. Kajal in the role of a visually impaired girl impressed many.

Deepika Padukone – Lafangey Parindey

Though the movie was a fiasco at the BO, Deepika’s performance as an aspiring dancer who lost her sight in an accident received applauds.

Kajol – Fanaa

The comeback film of Kajol, five years after marriage had earned her fourth Filmfare Award in ‘Best Actress’ category. Kajol as a blind woman who falls for Aamir Khan, a terrorist in the disguise of a good man has done her part to the perfection.

Rani Mukerji – Black

Rani in Black mesmerised us with her unbelievable screen presence. Rani as Michelle McNally who transforms herself from a frustrated and violent girl due to her inability to see and listen to gaining an MBA and understanding the nuances of life with the help of her teacher Debraj played by Big B is mind-blowing.

The movie which was critically acclaimed will be remembered for ages. Inspired by the story of Hellen Keller, this movie can be listed in one of the Rani’s best movies list. If you have not watched it yet, go watch it now.

Siddharth – Anaganaga Oka Deerudu

Siddharth played the blind character in the fantasy-adventure film which is co-produced by Disney World Cinema. Though Siddharth and Shruti Haasan played their parts well, it is Lakshmi Manchu who walked away with Nandi Award in the ‘Best Negative Role’ category. She was critically acclaimed for the portrayal of negative character Irendri.

RP Patnaik – Seenu Vasanthi Laxmi

The realistic portrayal of a blind man by music director-turned-actor RP Patnaik is lauded both by the film critics and general audience. The actor has put his soul and played it extraordinarily with detailed performance.

Laya – Preminchu

Laya in the role of a blind girl, Meena received a National award for her exceptional performance. She outshone every actor in the movie with her brilliant acting.

Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal – Ankhen

We are talking about visually impaired onscreen characters and how can we give a miss to this amazing movie based on the bank robbery. The film which has Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role received critical acclaim. Akshay, Arjun and Paresh Rawal nailed it with their impeccable performance.

 Sarvadaman Banerjee – Sirivennela

The classic movie Sirivennela has Sarvadaman Banerjee as a blind flutist who falls for a tourist guide. Apart from the actor’s blind role portrayal, the movie has many things to talk about. Suhasini’s performance in a dumb role, lyricist Seetarama Sastry’s debut, music of the film and many more.

Not only these, Sridevi in SP Parusuram, Raasi in Pelli Pandiri, Arjun Rampal in Vaada, Sanjay Dutt in Dushman and Madhuri Dixit in Sangeet played visually challenging roles onscreen and impressed many.

Some of the actors even made us believe as if they are blind since birth. A tour de force performance of these actors in their respective movies have only made them a better actor.
